How do I Take Care of my Flowers?

Water
The first and most evident step is to get your flowers into water as soon as possible after receiving your package. Many times flowers are kept in refrigeration at floral shops and this step can help the flowers to go into a latent state, helping extend their life. After warming up to the temperature of the room, flowers will require water. They are alive and need a drink as soon as possible. Roses require more water than mot flowers. Water your flowers every day no matter how they are stored, such as a vase, even if it has foam inside.

Food
Yes, flowers require food, just as we do, only in a different form of course. This will help extend the life of your flowers. The flower food available to you contains a specific agent that can help kill bacteria that can cause decay. Another agent used is one which contains a sugar component that will help nurture your blooms, acid will help to raise the PH level of the water, which in turn will be extremely beneficial to your flowers. A good hint for flower lovers is to drop an aspirin into the water, if you do not have the necessary food for your flowers.

Stems
It is quite popular and true that trimming the stems of your flowers can help to prolong their life. The cut needs to be about one to two inches above the original cut. Use a knife with sharp edges. A dull knife may shorten the life of your flower due to the damage of the stem. Always trim the stem at an angle underwater. The base is where the water enters and cutting at an angle assures that the water has the opportunity to do so. You do not want to create any air pockets in the stem; these will block absorption of water and in turn kill the flower. Always remove any leaves that may be below the waterline, this will add an additional life span to your flowers.

Location
Location, Location, Location. Keeping your flowers in the perfect location will definitely extend their life. A cool spot can add days to the life of your flowers. Do not keep them in direct sunlight and always keep them away from any heat source, such as vents or radiators. Do not keep your flowers on top of your television, this also produces heat and will lead to an early death of your arrangement. A fan may also cause dehydration, so if possible try to keep your flowers away from fans in the home. Cigarette smoke and ripe fruit can also cause a short-life expectancy for your flower arrangement.

If you keep all of the above steps in mind when taking care of your flowers, they will prosper and keep you company for quite sometime.
